Today is National S.T.E.M. Day (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math), and to celebrate, we're thrilled to announce world-renowned astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson will take the stage at LiveWorx 19, June 10-13 in Boston. Register today to secure your spot and prepare to have your mind blown!
Tyson is a long-time supporter of S.T.E.M. fields and believes innovations in science and technology "are the engines" of the economy of the future.
"Anything that's going to grow in our economy will derive from innovations in STEM fields."Neil deGrasse Tyson
Tyson became interested in astronomy at the age of nine after a visit to the Hayden Planetarium in New York City, where he now serves as Director and oversaw its $210-million reconstruction project.
In addition to his work at the planetarium, Tyson has found other ways of improving the nation's scientific literacy. "One of my goals is to bring the universe down to Earth in a way that further excites the audience to want more," he once said. To this end, he has written several books for the general public, including Death by Black Hole and Other Cosmic Quandaries and The Pluto Files: The Rise and Fall of America's Favorite Planet. Tyson has taken his message to the airwaves as well, serving as the host of PBS's NOVA ScienceNow documentary series from 2006 to 2011.
Today, Tyson is one of the most in-demand science trailblazers. He gives speeches across the country and is the "go-to" expert whenever there is an important science issue in the news. He also hosts his own podcast StarTalk Radio, a science-based talk show that features comedic co-hosts. A spin-off tv show, StarTalk with Neil deGrasse Tyson, airs weekly on National Geographic. Watch Neil's latest appearance on the Today Show where he discusses how StarTalk mixes science with celebrity.
His fifteenth book, Accessory to War: The Unspoken Alliance Between Astrophysics and the Military, co-written with Avis Lang, was published in September 2018. A video game he developed, Neil deGrasse Tyson Presents: Space Odyssey (which provides players with a realistic simulation of developing a space-faring culture), has a release date of December 2018.
