The customer offers an ordering system for spare parts. Due to recurring changes to optimize the measurement instruments that they offer, the exact version of the used measurement instrument plays an important role. Every change of the measurement instrument leads to a new version and to a changed spare-parts list. Here you can see that a technical change has a direct impact on the subsequent processes like purchasing, incoming goods inspection, warehousing, pricing and finally the web shop. Without a direct integration of the involved systems, the data would have to be administrated manually with a lot of effort and be forwarded.
As a conclusion, this example shows that the integration of the systems product data management, ERP, product information and the purchasing system lay the foundation for the further digitalization of business processes.
