CY955I - Cover Your Assets: Using Shodan to Discover What You Are Exposing to the World

Almost every day there seems to be a new headline about some company leaving a database, a directory of customer information, or some critical control system exposed publicly to the world.

With the move to the new connected and cloud-based world, traditional controls and perimeters are no longer applicable and mistakes are easier than ever to make. Sometimes with disastrous consequences.

This talk will look at Shodan.io, a search engine for internet facing computers. It's a website and tool favored by attackers and researchers for finding and cataloging information about internet-connected systems, whether they were meant to be connected or not.

Learn how you can use this resource yourself to see what you may be exposing and sharing with the world and hopefully plug the leaks before you end up in the next headline.

CY500 - Meet the Hackers

Dictionary.com defines a Hacker as “a person who circumvents security and breaks into a network, computer, file, etc.” The news is filled with stories about botnets, ransomware attacks and data breaches perpetrated by hackers. Few people socialize with those hackers. However, there is another type of hacker with a different mindset that uses their prowess at hacking for the greater good.

Join us for a fireside chat with some hackers and learn about their motivations, how they think, what they do and why benevolent hackers and scary/malicious hackers have different ways of channeling their skills.
