s689 - Systems Engineering the Whirlpool Way

Whirlpool has been on a transformational journey over the past 2-3 years to change the way they do product development. This session dives deeper into the change in Whirlpool's engineering processes and the tools they use to enable them.

Historically projects were initiated with design at the component level. Often this preceded the definition of high-level product requirements. Today, projects start at the product level and a decomposition occurs down to the component level. Whirlpool quickly realized that they did not have the correct tools to support this approach.

Attend this session to hear Whirlpool’s use cases and how they assessed various tools that could support these tasks. Presenters will highlight how these tools link into the larger PLM system and also discuss their journey to integrate existing tools and infrastructure (i.e. IBM Rational, PTC Windchill and Creo) with new tools (PTC Integrity Modeler).

s744 - Architecture Management the Whirlpool Way

If Whirlpool’s PLM solution is the “industrial toolkit” enabling them to meet the needs of the enterprise by managing architecture complexity than Systems Engineering is the “heavy duty engine” putting supercharged power into their implementation. Learn how Whirlpool is approaching Architecture Management using PTC’s PLM solution and a Model-Based System Engineering approach. From Integrity Modeler in early architecture development to Windchill for BOM creation and management, and Creo for configurable CAD, Whirlpool is transforming everything about Architecture Management. And, with over 100 years of experience in the consumer appliance industry, this is not a clean sheet operation. Whirlpool must develop and deploy processes and tools that support everything from advanced R&D to existing product lines with legacy infrastructure. Come and hear experiences from their journey in pursuit of managed architectures.
