II1131C - Digital Thread & Digital Twins Used to Control and Monitor Boeing Aircrafts

This presentation will demonstrate how the Digital Thread and Digital Twins are used to control and monitor the Super Profiler Cell and Henry Coolant Filter process line at Boeing in real-time. Super Profiler is a five-axis CNC machine with two spindles for 777X wing joint chord and Rib-T. There are only 8 of these machines currently being used across the world. The demo project in this presentation used Siemens’ TIA Portal to create the 3D digital twin model and control program via the Profinet communication protocol. It works in real-time for the 3D digital twin model with a machine controller. These Digital Twins utilize the Digital Twin Manufacturing Framework as well as ANSI/ISA95/IEC 62264-1. Hardware: Siemens 840D Sl CNC and S7-300 PLC, Rockwell control Logix PLC.
