ASME
Metal Additive Manufacturing - Design Considerations

Half Day

What is the best orientation for 3D printing a martini glass? When is it appropriate to replicate existing parts via additive manufacturing, and how to move toward optimizing the design specifically for additive manufacturing? We'll talk about these issues and more in a three-hour workshop focused on the design considerations for additive manufacturing with metal as Tim Simpson shares real-world experiences, tips, and a step-by-step "pre-flight" checklist to make sure you're ready to start printing your 3D metal designs.

Presented by:

Tim Simpson is the Director of the Additive Manufacturing and Design Master's Degree Program at Penn State, as well as the Co-Director of the CIMP-3D lab, a DOD Additive Manufacturing Demonstration Facility. He teaches courses on product design, 3D printing, and mass customization and gives tours of the CIMP-3D facility regularly. Tim is also an active ASME fellow, volunteer, and curriculum development subject-matter expert. He also contributes monthly to Modern Machine Shop and last year, he gave a TED talk at TEDxPSU.
