II1887I - Using Digital Twins in Manufacturing: Simulation, Real-time Data, and ML

In Manufacturing, the impact of mistakes is immediate and directly impacts quality and the bottom line. Changes are expensive and time-consuming to implement. Hence correct process planning is crucial to quality and throughput. Traditional process planning and plant design methods include offline models and do not provide real-time insight. This is where the plant digital twin comes in to fill the gap. HCLTech has combined engineering and physics with real-time data to create a digital twin of the production process. In this method, we combine engineering simulation (Creo and others) with real-time data from an IoT framework like ThingWorx. The combined solution can be used both for planning and production optimization along with a given roadmap to AR/VR with tools like Vuforia.
